I just read Robert Borosage's article The Peril of Trump's Final Act: Would He Use a Tactical Nuclear Weapon in Iran? in the September 18 edition of The Nation, and found it to be chillingly a very possible--even likely--nighmarish scenario. I'm writing to ask you to join me in sounding the alarm, including by pressing our Congresspersons--as well as candidates running in the November 3 mid-term election--to speak out against this very real danger!
A critical bill that could reduce the danger above is the concise Restricting First Use of Nuclear Weapons Act, which says "No Federal funds may be obligated or expended to conduct a first-use nuclear strike unless such strike is conducted pursuant to a war declared by Congress that expressly authorizes such strike." This would be a powerful instrument to put common sense limits on the existential danger that a US President could unilaterally launch Armageddon.
Nuclear Weapon experts say that once even one nuclear weapon is used, an escalatory action-reaction cycle could be started that would turn into a global nuclear holocaust.
